The selection committee chaired by the former minister of Economic Affairs, Hans Wijers, appointed The New Afsluitdijk supported by Energising Deltas as one of the ten most innovative Dutch projects in 2014 out of 165 submitted projects. On Thursday 6th of November the winner will be presented at the ‘Innovatieconferentie’ (Innovation conference) in The Hague.
The Water Board (Rijkswaterstaat) and regional authorities works in close cooperation to reinforce the existing Afsluitdijk for safety of the hinterland and also transform it to an energy producing water defence. So coupling climate adaptation and mitigation in one project. This New Afsluitdijk is one of the business cases of Energising Deltas.
In March the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO = Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland) called for innovative projects having great potential impact on both export and sustainability in the near future.
