Pro-Tide is an interregional project in North-west Europe. Among others, in Belgium, France and England are different partners working on sustainable energy production with the use of tide. A tidal power plant (TPP) is planned at the Brouwersdam. This weir separates the lake Grevelingen from the North sea. In the Grevelingen there is no natural inflow of North sea water and water quality has been declining over the years. Opening the Brouwersdam and therefore restore the tide on the Grevelingen will have an instant quality improvement of the water.
Pro-Tide will invest in research and knowledge about the various techniques to be used in the Brouwersdam. The intention is that de developers of the energy plant will test these techniques in a TTC Grevelingendam (TTC-GD) (located at the weir between the Grevelingen and the Oosterschelde). This test facility will be part of TTC NL in which TTC Den Oever, TTC Marsdiep and TTC-GD will participate.
These tests are including fish-friendliness, energy production, costs and benefits. The results of these tests will provide new insights about the consequences of various techniques and the most optimal technique can be used in the energy facility in the Brouwersdam.
In order to set up the test facility TTC-GD Pro-Tide organises several workshop concerning:
